Boa Vista

On the east side of the island nation of Cape Verde is the island of Boa Vista. Boa Vista, Cape Verde is a part of the northeastern portion of an island chain in the Atlantic Ocean off the western coast of Africa. Most of this island's land is flat, with the highest elevation point of 1,270 feet on Monte Estancia. Boa Vista has some of the most gorgeous beaches, which are a main attraction of the island.

The climate of Boa Vista, Cape Verde is dry and tropical with low humidity. The temperatures can get as high as just 84° Fahrenheit in the summer and as low as 68° Fahrenheit in the winter. The temperature of the water around the island can vary throughout the year. From 71.6° degrees Fahrenheit to 80.6° degrees Fahrenheit. Boa Vista, Cape Verde has a dry season as well as a wet season. From November until July is considered the dry season. The wet season lasts from August until October. Rain is not very abundant during the rainy season, but there are downpours that occur sporadically that contain most of the rain accumulation.

The Atlantic Ocean is known for being the location of the start of hurricanes. Boa Vista, Cape Verde is not in danger of being hit by a storm of this magnitude, because of its location. Most hurricanes start in the Gulf of Guinea and travel west across the ocean, well to the south of the island.

Boa Vista, Cape Verde is known for its pristine beaches, as well as for the marine life that can be spotted here. During the summer turtles use the southern beaches of the island as their breeding grounds. Along with turtles on the beach, whales can be spotted in the islet of Sai Rei.

People who come to Boa Vista, Cape Verde can enjoy quiet walks along the beach with a loved one. The beaches are a lovely spot to enjoy the sunset over the ocean water. Many types of water sports can be enjoyed here as well. Windsurfing enthusiasts find this island a wonderful location for their sport. Along with windsurfing, kite surfing and scuba diving can be experienced.

The clear waters off shore make it a great location to get a view of the life underwater. While diving, visitors can get a glimpse ancient ship wrecks. This is the resting place of the Italian Cecilia wreck which still contains its treasures of cargo and gold. There is an underwater mountain range, the Joao Valenta, off the beach of Boa Vista where a high concentration of fish, and other species is located as well as a unique marine environment.
